It is said that more than every second Finn has performed on stage at some time of his life. The relationship between professional and amateur theatre has always been close - the amateur theatre activities also create audiences for the professional theatre. The amateur theatre field is coordinated by both Finnish- and Swedish language organisations. The societies organise activities according to the needs and wishes of their members. The most popular activities are sports, theatre and folk dance, along with other communal dancing.
