Mika Myllyaho's Panic in the The National Theatre in Budapest, Hungary

Mika Myllyaho's Panic has premiere in Budabest, Hungary on 14 October 2009 in the National Theatre. The play is directed by Roland Rába.

Myllyaho's Panic was first presented in Budapest as staged reading in 11th March 2009. Play was produced by PanoDrama. At the same time period there was a workshop and work-in-progress presentation of Myllyaho's Chaos, led by Myllyaho’s assistant Aleksis Meaney with nine Hungarian actresses.

Leea Klemola's Into the Cold Has Premiere in Copenhagen in December 2009

Leea Klemola's Into the Cold (Kohti kylmempää) will be staged for the first time in Denmark in Nørrebro Teater, Copenhagen. The play is directed by Farnaz Arbabi and its premiere is on 5th December 2009. The Danish title is called Ud i kulden.

Finnish Theatre Magazine 2009, nr. 63 – Finnisches Theater - Sonderausgabe auf Deutsch

The Finnish Theatre Magazine was published for the first time in German in spring 2009. Finnisches Theater - Sonderausgabe auf Deutsch: Klein, aber fein! nr. 63 takes a deep look at what is happening in Finnish theatre right now. Magazine can be lownloaded as pdf. in www.teatteri.org or it can be ordered from tinfo(at)teatteri.org.

English and French language magazine on theatre in Finland has been published by Finnish Theatre Informationa Centre (Finnish ITI) since 1956, first by name News from the Finnish Theatre.  The magazine has come out once a year. Year 2009 magazine was published only in German. Magazines nr. 56-62 can be lownloaded as pdf. from the same address www.teatteri.org.

Anthology of Finnish Drama in Hungarian

Finnish Culture Institute Finnagora’s foundation and Polar foundation have published Mai finn drámák anthology. In anthology there are five contemporary Finnish plays:
Juha Jokela: Mobile Horror
Mika Myllyaho: Panic
Leea Klemola: Kokkola
Sirkku Peltola: Finnhorse
Sofi Oksanen: Purge

Anthology is translated in Hungarian by Yvette Jankó Szép, Nóra Falk, Ottília Kovács and Éva Pap. Éva Pap edited the anthology and she works as an editor in Polar Könyvek.

Anthology can be ordered from Polar foundation and it is available in some bookstores in Hungary.

Finnish Drama Translation Database Helps to Find Finnish Plays

The Finnish Theatre Information Centre TINFO has a database on web which contains translations of Finnish plays into other languages. Database is updated regularly. You can search for a play by entering one or more keywords.

Raija-Sinikka Rantala Left Her Position as the President of the Finnish Theatre Information Centre - New president  is dramaturge and director Pauliina Hulkko

Theatre director Raija-Sinikka Rantala left her position as the president after 15 years in the board (13 years as the president) of the Finnish Theatre Information Centre in April 2009. Pauliina Hulkko was appointed the new president in the annual general meeting. Dan Henriksson was appointed as vice president.

Paula Tuovinen Will Continue as a Rector in Theatre Academy Helsinki

The board of Theatre Academy Helsinki decided in September 2009 that Paula Tuovinen will continue as rector in Theatre Academy Helsinki for the next five years. 

Paula Tuovinen (b. 1961) is a dancer and choreographer and she has teached in Theatre Academy Helsinki since 1994. As a rector she started 2005. Tuovinen has also master’s degree in culture anthropology.

Rovaniemi Theatre - the Regional Theatre of Lapland Will Have Two New Theatre Directors

Rovaniemi Theatre – the Regional Theatre of Lapland will have two new directors from August 2010. Atro Kahiluoto and Masi Eskolin will take the lead from Rovaniemi Theatre after Tytti Oittinen.

New Board Elected at 37th Pearle Conference – Matti Holopainen President for Next Two Years

At the 37th Pearle conference in Geneva in the end of May 2009 the members of Pearle* elected a new board for a term of two years. President is Matti Holopainen, who is also the Managing director of the Finnish Theatre Association.

Created in 1991, Pearle* is the ‘Performing Arts Employers Associations League Europe’, the European trade federation of Performing Arts organisations. Pearle* represents through its members associations almost 4.000 theatres, theatre production companies, orchestras and music ensembles, opera houses, ballet and dance companies, festivals, and other organisations within the performing arts sector across Europe.

Merja Laaksovirta Was Elected as a New President for the International Amateur Theatre Association

Director of the Amateur Theatre Association of Finland, Merja Laaksovirta, will start as a president in the International Amateur Theatre Association AITA/IATA year 2011. Duration for the post is four years. Laaksovirta has been a board member in AITA/IATA and she has been a vice president since 2004.

Founded in 1952, AITA/IATA, the International Amateur Theatre Association, has broad and deep international roots. It is currently headquartered in Belgium and has active members in dozens of countries around the world. Its mission is to promote understanding and education through Amateur Theatre.
