| Nordic Showcase & Drama Forum, 5 – 10 August 2008 The Nordic Theatre Union (NTU) is a Nordic theatre network, and TINFO is a member of NTU. The chair of NTU is held by TINFO in 2007-2008, and the chairperson is Raija-Sinikka Rantala, theatre director from Finland, and chairperson of TINFO. The secretary of NTU in 2007-2008 is Riitta Seppälä. TINFO will organize in cooperation with NTU, the Nordic Council of Ministers, and Riksteatern (Sweden) a Nordic theatre meeting, Nordic Showcase & Drama Forum in Tampere. Nordic Showcase & Drama Forum, 5-10 August 2008, will be organized during the Tampere Theatre Festival. This is a great opportunity to see exciting theatre productions and to reflect on the role of drama and our work in the Nordic countries. Parallel to the Tampere Theatre Festival programme, there will be a series of seminars, workshops and readings which will look at: · the trends in new Nordic dramatic writing · the role of playwright and dramaturgs · information channels and the mobility of plays · questions related to international translation and promotion · how to create a space where we can learn from best practices and develop new models for the benefit of future exchange. Nordic Drama Award The plays nominated for the Nordic Drama Award will be introduced as performances or staged readings followed by discussions with the playwrights. | Volkstheater Rostock launches its Finnish season 08-09 Next season at Volkstheater Rostock, Germany, is a Finnish season. “ Finland is not only a land of thousands of lakes, or the best pupil in PISA surveys. Finland is also a theatre land worth exploring”, says Superintendent Steffen Piontek from Volkstheater. The motto of the season is EINNORDEN, and it is a cooperation with TINFO, the Finnish Embassy Berlin and the Finnish Cultural Institute in Berlin and Finnlines Company. Next season Anu Saari’s theatre direction of Aki Kaurismäki’s film I Hired a Contract Killer will continue at the repertory. Ilpo Tuomarila’s adaptation of Mikael Niemi’s novel Popular Musik aus Vittula and Juha Jokela’s Mobile Horror will be premiered later this year. In 2009, Pirkko Saisio’s Fühllosigkeit Katja Krohn’s Der Grosse Böse Wolf, Laura Ruohonen’s Einland and Otso Kautto’s Rettet Mama! will get their premieres at Volkstheater. Otso Kautto will direct his own play. Theatre director Katariina Lahti and stage designer Kati Lukka will carry out Popular Musik aus Vittula in Rostock. Five of the plays are German premieres, only Mobile Horror has been performed in Germany before. Moreover, Norddeutsche Philharmonie orchestra presents Finnish composers, and Kaija Saariaho’s L’amour du loin will have its German premiere in Rostock in January 2009. Up |

| 100 % Finlande in France 100 % Finlande presents Finnish music, literature, dance, films, theatre and other cultural actions in more than 250 events in Paris and France, from April to June. It is a project of CulturesFrance, the Ministry of Education in Finland and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Staged readings of Finnish plays are a co-production of TINFO with Terra Incognita (Stéphane Fiévet) and Maison Antoine Vitez (Laurent Muhleisen) and the theatres Artistic Athévains and Odéon in Paris. Laura Ruohonen’s La Reine C is performed in June 12 at Artistic Athévains Theatre. Ruohonen’s Seules en l'île can be seen at Odéon in June 20. Moreover, in Odéon, Rosa Liksom’s Family Affairs will be read in June 18, and Juha Jokela’s Mobile Horror in June 19. See the whole programme in here. | Helsinki in Berlin The arts and culture of Helsinki metropolitan area were presented in Berlin at HelsinKISSBerlin event during April. Modern Finnish dance was widely presented, and Music Theatre Kapsäkki took their children’s opera Strohhut, Filzpantoffel und der Grosse Knall, based on the popular books of Nopola sisters. http://www.helsinkissberlin.de/ Up |

| Panic in St Petersburg Mika Myllyaho’s Panic had its Russian premiere in April. It was staged at the Bely Theatre of Dostoevsky Museum. Panic was directed by Vera Biron, Tino Svetozarev and Alexander Bargman, the actors are Alexander Bargman, Vitaly Kovalenko and Alexander Novikov. In the fall of 2008, the performance will be moved to a bigger stage, and it has been invited to some festivals, too. This was the second international premiere of Panic, the first was earlier this year at the Bellevue Theatre, Copenhagen. http://www.md.spb.ru/ Up |

| Finnish plays as staged readings Théâtre du Centaure in Luxembourg is performing Finnish plays as staged readings in Luxembourg, North-West France, Belgium and Avignon. Mika Myllyaho’s Panique was performed in early February, Anna Krogerus’ Par amour-propre in March, Jari Juutinen’s Je suis Adolf Eichmann in June. Théâtre du Centaure will go with Je suis Adolf Eichmann to Avignon-OFF theatre festival from July 10 to August 2.
