Travelling
TRAVEL INFORMATION

There are several options how to get to Tampere:

BY AIR

There is one cheap airline called Ryanair, flying daily once directly to Tampere at very favorable rates, 40-100 Euros for a one-way ticket, from Frankfurt (Hahn), London (Stansted) and Riga. The earlier you book, the cheaper the flight will be (http://www.ryanair.com). The flight schedule is as follows:

Blue 1 is also offering direct and cheap flights from Copenhagen (2- 4 x every day and once on Sat. & Sun.) and Stockholm (2 - 4 x every day, once on Sat. & Sun.) to Tampere, 40-130 Euros for a one-way ticket. Otherwise, there are over 20 international airlines offering regular flights to Helsinki (Vantaa), from where you can continue to Tampere. There are daily five direct flights between Helsinki (Vantaa) and Tampere offered by Finnair and Golden Air, the flight time being 40 minutes, 30-40 Euros for a one-way ticket (http://www.finnair.com / http://www.goldenair.fi). 

The airport is located 15 km southwest from Tampere. You will get either by bus (6 € Ryanair bus) or taxi (12 €, http://www.taksitampere.fi) to the city center.

 

BY BUS

Traveling by an express bus is an easy way to get from the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport or the Helsinki city center to Tampere. The bus departs every 1 - 2 hours, and the traveling time is

2 ½ hours, ~ 25 Euros for a one-way ticket. For timetables, please check the following website: http://www.matkahuolto.fi

 

BY TRAIN 

There are excellent train connections on comfortable trains between Helsinki and Tampere city centers. Trains depart every hour (except for the night time). The traveling time is approximately 2 hours, only the Pendolino travels in 1 ½ hours. One-way tickets cost around 20 - 30 Euros. It is also possible to reach Tampere by train from Moscow (14 hours) and St. Petersburg (6 ½ hours). You have to change trains in Riihimäki.

 

BY SEA

Finland is also easily reached by sea from Stockholm (http://www.vikingline.com) Travemünde, Rostock (http://www.silja.fi), Gdansk, Tallin (http://www.eckeroline.fi) and St. Petersburg (http://www.silja.fi). There are good bus connections to Tampere directly from the Ferry terminals.



Accommodation
         
The participants of the Janus project are accommodated at the Scandic Tampere City. The Hotel is located in the centre of the city right next to the railwaystation.
